The Preston Art Project

As a Preston based artist I thought it only right that I create some artwork based on my hometown. I moved here in 2011 and have spent those years building a life and home with my wife Elaine and dog Pippa. I can't imagine living anywhere else now and have found inspiration from the people, landmarks, stories, myths and legends that encapsulate the city.

Nick Park

Nick Park and Wallace and Gromit Portrait - Caffer's Art
My first piece of artwork inspired by Preston is of Nick Park. I first sat down at ten years old and watched A Grand Day out in 1990 with my dad, he was so excited to see the film and it was a wonderful shared experience for us both. Now whenever I walk past the Wallace and Gromit bench in the Market Square it brings back that wonderful memory. So this portrait pays homage to a talented animator and his wonderful creations.

Prince of Peace

Prince of Peace Preston Artwork by Caffer's Art

Every city needs a hero and Preston has Wilfred the Lamb. This is my interpretation of the Preston coat of arms.

Historically the Lamb is the Lamb of St. Wilfrid who is the Patron Saint of Preston and signifies the Prince of Peace or ‘lamb of god’. He is holding the cross and flag with a golden circle (the sun) behind his head as depicted in previous designs.

You'll  also see in the background I have drawn several of Preston's most prominent and historical landmarks (from left to right) Preston Railway Station, Riversway Control Centre, Tulketh Mill Chimney and the Harris Museum.

The Bollard

The Bollard Preston Artwork by Caffer's Art

This piece depicts the now infamous Fishergate bollard which was attacking the cars of Preston in 2018 and 2019

A few unlucky drivers became stuck atop the bollard before having to be rescued from their fate. There was a call to arms and local authorities rallied and ousted the enemy from Preston saving countless cars from sure destruction.

You can still see remnants of the old bollards base outside the Army recruitment office, a now poignant reminder of what was a very turbulent time in the city's history.
